DENVER (CBS4) – A Denver police officer who was shot in City Park Sunday night has died.

CBS4 has confirmed that a female police officer was shot in the head after responding to a fight as Jazz in the Park was ending.

There are reports that a suspect is in custody but CBS4 has yet to confirm that.

Denver Mayor Michael Hancock went to Denver Health Medical Center where she was taken and where her colleagues have been gathering and grieving.

Jazz in the Park is a free concert series held during the summer months in City Park. Hundreds of attend, including families with young children.

The officer’s name hasn’t been released.
