Months After Deadly Crash, Hit And Run Suspect Arrested

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver police have arrested a suspect in a deadly hit-and-run that happened in February.

Police arrested Paul Estrada Jr., 62, on investigation of duty to report accidents involving death.

James Garcia, 31, died after being hit in the evening of Feb. 20 while crossing Sheridan Boulevard at West Colfax Avenue.

Police found the car in the case several months ago.

"The vehicle was recovered approximately two months ago, it has been recovered and processed," said Denver Police Detective Raquel Lopez.

After the deadly crash, Garcia's family pleaded with someone to come forward with information that would lead police to the driver.

"Wish they would turn themselves in because it's not right to hurt someone and just to get away with it, they need to get away with it and admit what they did," said Garcia's sister Karlene Sanchez in February.

The victim's mother wanted to hear an explanation.

"That he's sorry for what he did, that he didn't mean it," said Garcia's mother Elena Garcia.

Estrada Jr. has a lengthy criminal history that includes drugs, sex assault and shoplifting.

With the case moving forward police hope it will give Garcia's family some closure.

"Not only for the victim but for the families of these victims to try to be able to take somebody in to custody so they can have some justice," said Lopez.
