Body Of Infant Found At Landfill After Months Of Searching

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- Investigators found the body of either a child or infant at the Denver Arapahoe Landfill on Wednesday. They haven't confirmed whether it is that of an infant that went missing in March.

Sharrieckia Page is accused of killing her 7-month-old son, Torrey Brown. She has been charged with child abuse resulting in death and first degree murder.

Copter4 flew over as FBI and police detectives searched for the baby's remains at the Denver Arapahoe Disposal Site in April.

Over a 53-day period, 500 people from 26 agencies and community organizations across the state and nation participated in the search. Approximately 19,300 hours were spent searching the 2 and-a-half-acres, about 13,000 tons, of the regional solid waste landfill.

Working in 12-hour shifts at a cost of approximately $10,000 per day, crews sorted through 9,900 tons of waste, over one million square fee, before finding the remains.

At the time of the initial disappearance investigation that began March 29, police said they believed the child was no longer alive but would not reveal why. Detectives said the child died at the hands of his mother.

At the Pinecrest Apartment complex where Page was living in Commerce City with her two other children, officers taped off dumpsters with crime scene tape while they searched the area. Officers also carried away a bassinet and other items from inside her apartment.

Investigators said they received information that Page had been seen near one of the dumpsters. If Torrey's body was placed there, it may have gone into a garbage truck and emptied into the landfill.
