Woman Gets 40 Years In Child Abuse Case
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - A Colorado Springs woman has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for binding a 21-month-old girl with tape, holding her under cold water and causing injuries that left the child unable to walk or talk.
The Gazette reports a judge sentenced 51-year-old Mary Horsley to prison Tuesday. She is to serve two years in jail on two misdemeanor convictions of child abuse followed by five years of probation.
A jury in March acquitted Horsley of attempted murder but found her guilty of child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury and attempted child abuse with serious bodily injury.
The girl, Alexis, and her mother had moved in last year with Horsley, who is the child's aunt. Alexis' mother, Samantha Salaz, is serving a 24 year prison sentence.
