Colorado Springs Officer Cleared In Fatal Shooting
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Prosecutors say a Colorado Springs police officer who killed a gunman at a medical clinic was justified because the suspect pointed a firearm at him.
El Paso County prosecutors say the officer was defending himself and four others in the clinic when he fired at Dominic Oliver on Feb. 28, 2012.
Authorities say Oliver entered the clinic armed and initially took two female employees hostage. Dozens of others inside fled.
The hostages were eventually released but others remained in the building hiding. Police tried to distract Oliver to help the remaining people inside when the confrontation with the officer happened.
