United Airlines Pilots Picket Outside Of DIA

DENVER (CBS4) - United Airlines pilots are calling on the carrier to stop outsourcing flights and jobs.

Pilots held an informational picket Monday at Denver International Airport on Monday. They say as part of cost-cutting moves, United has furloughed its own pilots while outsourcing 66 percent of its domestic flights to regional carriers.

"We feel the flying public, when they buy a ticket on United Airlines, they expect to be flown by a United pilot; and we expect to fly them as well," Capt. Garth Thompson with United Airlines Pilots said.

United says 87 percent of their miles flown are with their own pilots and planes. A spokeswoman said that all regional carriers are held to the same standards as United.
