Charges Filed In Deadly I-25 Hit And Run
DENVER (CBS4)- A Texas man has been charged in connection with a deadly hit and run crash that happened early Sunday morning on Interstate 25.
Uriel Lopez-Ramirez has been charged with vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, reckless driving, no operator's license, DUI and possession of a controlled substance.
Police believe Lopez-Ramirez, 20, was driving drunk when he struck a pedestrian at about 3:15 a.m. who was trying to cross I-25 at about 20th Street. Police believe he kept driving and did not stop.
A few minutes later, a Colorado State Patrol trooper pulled over Lopez-Ramirez for speeding near I-25 and Highway 52. The state trooper noticed the front-end damage to his vehicle and made the connection to the deadly hit and run.
Lopez-Ramierz remains in custody in the Denver Detention Center with a $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday to be advised of the charges.
