FORT MORGAN, Colo. (CBS4) – Dozens of volunteers in Fort Morgan joined the search to find Kayla Chadwick. The 17-year-old was last seen March 27 while walking home late that night.

More than 100 people searched for Chadwick. They scoured the area where she was last seen off East 8th Avenue and the banks of the Platte River.

The case has been confusing for Chadwick’s family and law enforcement. They simply don’t have any idea what might have happened to her. The last known report was that she had gone to her boyfriend’s home just five blocks from where she lives.

There are reports of some sort of confrontation between her and her boyfriend. The last time she was in contact with her family was around 10 p.m. the night she disappeared. Police said their last known record of Chadwick is from a text message to came into her phone just after midnight.

There is no evidence to show what might have happened to Chadwick. That has made the family very upset.

“She just vanished from his house. It’s not possible. Somebody has seen something. Somebody knows something,” Chadwick’s mother Robin Adams said.

The family said Chadwick did run away from home two years ago. They don’t believe she would have run away with just a few months left in her senior year of high school.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children issued a caution saying that Chadwick may have a gun.
