I-70 Reopens After Closure For Sign Removal
CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- The Colorado Department of Transportation re-opened westbound Interstate 70 at Dumont just before 7 p.m. Friday. It was closed for about four hours while crews removed the overhead electronic variable message sign just east of Empire Junction.
All westbound traffic was detoured onto the frontage road, U.S. 6 and 40, and returned to I-70 west of Empire Junction. Traffic was reduced to one lane on the detour route.
CDOT needed to remove the sign since a stress crack has developed in the base of the supporting structure. With a forecast of wet weather and windy conditions this weekend, traveler safety requires the entire structure to be removed promptly.
