Phish To Return To Commerce City On Labor Day Weekend

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (CBS4) - Jam band fans in Colorado should be excited to hear this news: Phish will return to Dick's Sporting Goods Park at the end of the summer for another three night stand.

The band announced that they will play on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights -- Aug. 31, Sept. 1 and Sept. 2.

The shows last Labor Day were heavily attended and brought a new feel to the stadium that is usually filled with soccer fans. Dick's Sporting Goods Park is home to the Colorado Rapids.

The band has a strong following in Colorado and has played in the state 13 times since they reunited after a long absence in 2009.

That summer they performed a four night stand at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The following summer Phish performed in Telluride for two nights.

Then in the fall of 2011 they played a hurriedly-organized benefit show with several other bands at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield after the devastating Fourmile Fire. That was followed by Phish's three planned nights at the 1st Bank Center.

The 2011 shows at Dick's were considered by many fans to be one of the band's best-ever three night stands. The band played with precision and focus, and weren't afraid to have a little fun, too. The first of the three nights featured a setlist that included only songs that began with the letter "S."

One fan who flew to the shows last summer died in the camping area of the Dick's complex after reportedly overusing drugs or alcohol.

Camping will be offered for the shows again this year.
