FORT LUPTON, Colo. (CBS4) – One person was killed in a deadly crash near Fort Lupton on Sunday.
The crash happened near the intersection of Highway 52 and Weld County Road 21. A pickup truck collided with a tractor-trailer.
The crash resulted in a fireball that was sent into the sky and it ignited a brush fire, but the fire was put out quickly.
The driver of the pickup, which was heading west, was killed. Witnesses said the pickup veered into the eastbound lane.
“One big ball of flame and explosions. The pickup veered off and the guy was killed on impact,” a witness told CBS4. “There were no traffic problems.”
Witnesses said the driver of the semi exited his truck with his hair on fire. One witness said the semi driver told her he had been driving for 40 years and it was the first time he had been involved in a fatal accident.
The crashed happened around 3:30 p.m. and it took firefighters 30 minutes to put out the fire.
