Fire Truck Burned In Colorado Wildfire To Be Replaced

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) -- A volunteer fire department that lost one of its engines during a large grass fire in eastern Colorado last weekend is getting a replacement.

Officials with the Colorado State Forest Service said Friday the Wauneta Fire Protection District near Wray will loan an older engine to the Wages Volunteer Fire Department in nearby Yuma. Three firefighters from the Wages department were injured -- one critically -- while trying to escape from the stranded engine after the blaze broke out last Sunday.

The Wauneta district will receive an upgraded tanker from the Colorado State Forest Service.

Sunday's fire charred more than 37 square miles and destroyed two farmsteads. It's also blamed for the loss of at least 40 cattle, but as many as 400 head remain missing.
