5th-Grade Girls Get Chance To Become 'Senator For A Day'

DENVER (CBS4) - The Colorado Senate welcomed 35 new members on Monday as fifth-grade girls from across the state took the oath of office as "Senator for a Day."

Every senator hosted a girl from his or her district to show them just how government works, and the girls were excited to get to work.

"It's a really special place because they do the bills here and the laws of Colorado," Brenda De La Torre with Senate District 20 said.

It was the second year for the "Girls with Goals Day" and it's fully bipartisan with both parties embracing the idea of getting girls into the state Capitol.
