Olympian's Pistol Returned, Suspect Arrested In Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Colorado Springs police have arrested a suspect in the theft of a specialized air pistol belonging to an Olympic pentathlon athlete.

Elias Matos was arrested on suspicion of first-degree criminal trespassing, identity theft and theft by receiving Wednesday. Matos is accused of taking the pistol and other valuables out of a vehicle belonging to athlete Eli Bremer Monday.

He is also accused of using Bremer's credit cards to make fraudulent purchases.

After receiving a tip identifying the suspect in a picture, police searched his address and recovered the pistol. They also recovered other stolen property taken from the vehicle.

Police say the investigation is ongoing due to the recovery of numerous stolen items.

Bremer is preparing to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics. He placed 23rd at the 2008 games.
