BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4)– The man charged with kidnapping two hikers in Boulder County pleaded guilty on Friday.

Joseph Carter pleaded guilty to second degree kidnapping as part of a deal with prosecutors.

He faces up to 24 years in prison when he’s sentenced in April.

Investigators said Carter confronted a man and a woman at gunpoint in the mountains near Nederland in June 2010. He then tied them up.

Both hikers got away without any serious injuries. Carter was found a few days later. He was camping in the area.

Now this is a REAL kidnapping. Unfortunately, the legal definition of “kidnapping” is so crazy sometimes, that – ESPECIALLY IN BOULDER– Innocent young people have been charged with “kidnapping” when in fact they never kidnapped anyone at all! Yet, this follows them for a lifetime with a FELONY kidnapping charge. Boulder is a mad, angry, and confused place.
I am sorry for the people in this article who suffered a real kidnapping. I am so happy they caught this freak of man that committed this crime.
