GOP TV Ads Roll For Colorado Caucus

DENVER (CBS4)- Political television commercials are virtually unheard of for Colorado caucuses. But this year is different.

Republican presidential candidates are courting the vote in Colorado with air time and face time before Tuesday's GOP Caucus.

"Colorado has not seen Republican candidates doing a lot of paid media in advance of our caucuses," said State Republican Party Chair Ryan Call.

Republican presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum have purchases radio time and are expected to launch TV campaigns as well.

"I think Colorado voters and particularly caucus voters expect candidates to come and ask for their vote, to earn it," said Call.

GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul made three stops in Colorado this week. Rick Santorum spent two days campaigning from Colorado Springs to Denver. Romney is expected Sunday and Newt Gingrich has a visit planned for Monday.

Colorado is the largest caucus state to vote this month but that's only part of the draw.

"A candidate that can do well in Colorado I think can do very well in the general election," said Call. "I think Colorado has an opportunity to change the momentum of this campaign or confirm the momentum of this campaign."

Only registered Republicans are allowed to vote in Colorado's caucuses and they had to register by December.
