PLATTEVILLE, Colo. (CBS4) – The former police chief of Platteville will spend 2 years on probation after embezzling money from the town.

Scott Smith admitted to using department fuel cards to fill up his personal vehicle. He says he did it about a dozen times to the amount of about $400.

Smith claimed he had permission from two town trustees, but they denied giving him permission.

In addition to probation Smith will have to pay restitution and perform community service.
