Salon Donates Time & Services To Military Wives

DENVER (CBS4) - One Sunday a month a select group of women are treated to a day at the spa.

The chairs at Phoebe Therese Salon were full this Sunday on a day when the salon is normally closed. The owners opened their doors to provide free services for military wives in the Denver area.

"So to have a day where you can just get your hair done and look pretty even though your husband's not here. It's nice to be recognized and not to have to talk baby talk all day," a military wife said.

Phoebe Miller and Therese Cavanaugh are co-owners of the Cherry Creek salon. They wanted to do something to give back to the community. After a soldier stopped in the salon with his wife it hit them.

"What can I do to help him or to show him my thanks as a hair dresser. Maybe it's to treat the wives," Miller said.

And that's exactly what they did Sunday. Everything for haircuts to hair color, the military wives got pampered.

"A lot of people don't realize what we go through, especially me. I have three babies, one two and three, so it's hard for us and it's really nice to get something done," military wife Laci Morgan said.

It's not just a one-time thing for the owners of Phoebe Therese Salon. It was their second time holding the event and they plan to continue doing so every month to benefit military families.

The clients are more than thankful. The owners are happy that even though they're working on their day off it benefits others who need it.

The owners are trying to get other salons to participate in the monthly treatments.
