DENVER (CBS4)- Denver Broncos Quarterback Tim Tebow isn’t shy about his faith. His actions on the field have some questioning whether football and faith mix.

His dedication to Christianity has created a sensation regardless of what fans think about the display.

University of Colorado Denver psychology professor Mitch Handelsman said it’s not uncommon to have a role model who may not embody every quality you desire.

“Role models are complex and we don’t have to accept everything about a given role model. We can accept what we want and we can say, ‘You know what? This other stuff we can leave to the side’,” said Handelsman.

He also had some advice for those who don’t want their Sunday morning meeting their Sunday afternoon.

“Watch the game and don’t listen to his interview,” said Handelsman.

He does think all the discussion with religion opens a dialogue to those who would otherwise avoid the topic.

“If Tebow was a Muslim, would we preserve his right to communicate his religious faith or not? And so questions like that allow us, maybe even individually, maybe not in groups, to explore some things that need to be explored,” said Handelsman.
