Missing Attorney Will Return To Colorado To Face Charges

BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. (CBS4)- Royal Scoop Daniel, the attorney who went missing for four years while he was a wanted man, will return to Colorado to face charges.

"He waived extradition which means he's not going to contest the fact that he is wanted in Colorado," said San Diego County Deputy District Attorney Brent Neck.

Daniel suddenly went missing in the middle of the workday on April 27, 2007, in a highly publicized case. His co-workers reported him missing.

A former law partner speculated about what may have happened when Daniel disappeared, "He didn't have any money that we know of and he hasn't taken any money and he didn't take his coat or his vehicle or his dog."

After an investigation by authorities a warrant was issued for his arrest about 2 weeks later. Police suspect he stole as much as $750,000 from clients.

Daniel told police he had been living in Acapulco and hadn't talked to anyone in the U.S. since he left. He also told police he didn't know he had felony criminal charges awaiting his return.

"That was one of those investigations that you hope during your career that you're able to get some answers to," said Breckenridge Police Chief Rick Holman.

"He will be going back to Colorado very soon to face justice on their felony theft charges," said Neck.

Summit County District Attorney Mark Hurlbert believes Daniel will be back in Colorado next week.
