Jackknifed Semi Closes Highway 285 For Hours

MORRISON, Colo. (CBS4) - Weather conditions contributed to an accident that closed Highway 285 for several hours Saturday.

A jackknifed semi blocked traffic between Parmalee Gulch Road and Turkey Creek Road. The driver was ticketed for careless driving, which police say means he was driving too fast for the conditions.

Officers say driving too fast for conditions is a common mistake which can be avoided.

"There is exceeding safe speed for conditions and there's also careless driving. In a weather situation like this, just because the posted speed limit is 45 it doesn't mean the 45 is the speed you should be driving," Kevin Holroyd with Morrison police said.

The semi blocked traffic at 8:45 a.m. The road reopened at 1 p.m.
