Legacy High Band To March In Macy's Thanksgiving Parade

BROOMFIELD, Colo. (CBS4) - Some students at a high school in Broomfield are getting ready to take a memorable trip the Big Apple.

The Legacy High School Lightning Marching Band has been selected to perform in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

"Not many people can say they get to do this, especially from Colorado. We're only the second band from Colorado to go and it's a huge honor and I'm really looking forward to it," said Brass Leader Damian David.

"They said they judged on entertainment value. And we put together our field shows and really focused on entertaining the crowd, and they say that's how we were chosen," said Legacy High School Lightning Marching Band Director Clay Stansberry.

Stansberry is used to conducting three to four practices per week for the six-time 5A State Champions.

"We're working every day after school this week," said Stansberry.

In addition to playing three songs along the parade route, the band will perform Stansberry's arrangement "A Colorado Winter Wonderland" for the main performance.

"The routine that we do, we have to make it look really good, we have to entertain a lot of people. It's going to be the biggest audience this band has ever performed for. So perfecting that performance is probably the hardest part," said Drum Captain Casey Moore.

When asked what part about the trip is the most exciting, Drum Major Paige Becker said, "Probably to be part of something that's so American and so traditional to American families."

"I've never been to New York, so seeing the city and all the sights and all the sight-seeing we're going to do- it's going to be really fun. And then our performance ... You know, any performance is a great opportunity to do your best and feel great about it," said Drum Major Robby Stokoe.
