Governors Mark Completion Of History Colorado Center's Construction

DENVER (CBS4) - Two Colorado governors marked the end of construction on the History Colorado Center Friday.

Gov. John Hickenlooper and former Gov. Bill Ritter unveiled an inscribed block of limestone on the new museum, located at 12th and Broadway.

The construction project took two years and cost $110 million. The new building will have interactive exhibits for the whole family including a state map on the floor of the atrium.

Ritter said the project has real meaning for all Coloradoans.

"It is really important for us to really stop and take note," he said, "and not just 4th and 5th graders but for all of us who are citizens of the state to really understand what we came from because it really becomes our best method of charting a path forward."

The first exhibits at the History Colorado Center are set to open to the public in the spring of 2012.
