Police Recover Puppy Stolen From Lone Tree Pet Store, Suspects Arrested

LONE TREE, Colo. (CBS4) - Police have recovered a puppy snatched from a pet store in Lone Tree and arrested three suspects on Tuesday.

Surveillance video recorded the suspect playing with the $1,100 pug at Just Pets Monday afternoon. She spent some time with the dog, then left but returned a few hours later.

"(She) really liked her, said she was in love with her; was going to think about her and come back," Just Pets owner Lisa Stone said.

Stone said the woman said she wanted to buy the dog but needed a few more minutes. Meanwhile, another customer came in to look at kittens. When Stone went to the back of the store the pug-napper dashed out the front door.

"I didn't see anybody anywhere; nobody running, no car, no nothing -- gone," Stone said.

Police arrested Alexandra Kennel, 18; Tyler Ryan Mayden, 18; and Trevor Roarke Power, 19. Charges range from conspiracy to theft by receiving.

The Lone Tree police are still looking for the suspect who took the puppy. She's been identified as Brittany Cooper, 18. Anyone with information about Cooper's whereabouts is asked to call Lone Tree police.

"It sounds like she had changed hands a couple of times, and so I hope they can get prosecuted to the fullest extent for putting this poor little baby through all madness," Stone said.

According to the American Kennel Club, pet theft is a growing problem nationwide. Approximately 224 pets have been reported stolen in the first 7 months of this year compared with just 150 in the same period of time last year.
