Colorado Springs Seeking Hefty Fees For Health Services
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - The Colorado Springs health department is looking at hefty fees to restore programs slashed by budget cuts.
The fees would cover pool and spa inspections, a meth-lab clean-up program and several other major public health services that were axed in 2009 because of budget cuts.
According to the Colorado Springs Gazette, the effort to bring back six programs eliminated in the aftermath of major budget cuts from 2001 to 2008 is not business as usual.
Under the proposed fees, a body art plan review would cost more than $300, a restaurant review could cost up to $580 and a wastewater system permit could cost up to $500.
City officials have said they were forced to make the cuts under the city's tough tax- and spending-limits.
