Body Found In Burned Home In Jefferson County

MORRISON, Colo. (CBS4) - Emergency officials in Jefferson County on Wednesday morning found a body in a burned home.

The home is located on Canyon Cedar Drive, near C-470 and Ken Caryl, and more than half of it was destroyed. West Metro Fire responded to the fire and when firefighters went inside the home they discovered the body.

Jefferson County sheriff's investigators were also on the scene.

The fire was reported by neighbors shortly before 6 a.m. Approximately 45 firefighters and 15 rigs quickly arrived on scene.

"I just saw lights flashing, came to my front window and saw that there were a lot of fire trucks here and didn't know what it was all about," a neighbor said.

A firefighter who was involved in the firefight suffered a minor injury.

The fire was isolated to the back of the house.

"We don't know at this point. We don't know if it's a male or female, so clearly we don't have and ID on the victim yet," Mark Techmeyer with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department said. "We have a death investigation and a fire investigation undergoing."

Neighbors didn't want to talk to CBS4 about the owners of the house but did say they were an older couple who has been separated for about a year. The man hasn't been seen in the neighborhood since they separated.

Firefighters were able to rescue a dog that was in the house.
