Stamp Set Will Include Colorado Photographer's Pics

DENVER (AP) - The U.S. Postal Service will use five pictures of landscapes taken by a Colorado photographer from a single-engine plane as part of a stamp series called Earthscapes.

The Denver Post reports Wednesday that the photos by 80-year-old retired geologist and mining engineer Jim Wark will be among 15 in the stamp series to be released October 2012. The stamps will feature American landscapes taken from aircraft and satellites.

Wark has produced nine books of aerial photos and owns Airphoto Photography in Pueblo. He's taken aerial photos of Yellowstone National Park and industrial scenes from Texas and New York between 1990 and 2007. He says the postal service contacted in in 2007.

One of the photos selected is that of Stagecoach Butte in Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park in southeastern Utah.
