Mother Of Murdered Soldier Relieved About Arrest

DENVER (CBS4) - The parents of a soldier shot to death near a Denver hotel say they're relieved an arrest has been made in the case.

Army Sgt. Anthony Silva, 25, was walking his dog on Paris Street last month in Denver when he was shot and killed. He had been staying at a Motel 6 waiting for his father to give him a ride back home to Illinois.

Police arrested Ricky Scott, 22, Friday night as a suspect in the murder. Detectives haven't said what led to the arrest.

Silva's mother told CBS4 she was happy to hear the news.

"It's bittersweet, you know I'm glad we got the guy, but it doesn't bring Tony back," Silva's mother Diane Silva said. "He will rest in peace and we'll get some peace out of it knowing that this guy is going to have to pay for taking Tony's life."

Silva had been stationed at Fort Carson and was about to be discharged from the Army.

Scott has a criminal background, including arrests for extortion, drug possession and being a fugitive.
