COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) – An El Paso County sheriff’s deputy faces a charge for a car crash that killed an Air Force reservist.

The Colorado State Patrol on Wednesday issued 42-year-old Rodney Fannin a misdemeanor citation for careless driving resulting in death. Investigators say Fannin ran a red light in Colorado Springs two weeks ago and hit the car driven by Capt. Vivian Elmo. She died at the scene.

Elmo was an active-duty reservist with the 310th Space Wing at Schriever Air Force Base. Fannin was off-duty and in his personal vehicle at the time of the accident.

The Colorado Springs Gazette reports that Fannin was on probation for a careless driving conviction when the crash happened.

The sheriff’s office says it is conducting an internal investigation.

Good ol’ boy system I presume?!

My friend is gone forever, and this person only get a misdemeanor charge? How messed up is that? Same thing happened to my husband…same deal because the guy was a firefighter who had a morphine drip in his stomach. My heart breaks for Vivs family who will not have justice. Just as my 7 children and I did not after we lost our father and husband. I call BS on this.
