DENVER (CBS4) – A young child has died after being run over by a pickup truck in northeast Denver on Wednesday afternoon.

Police were called to a parking lot in the 4300 block of York Street where they found the child’s body. Investigators say the driver pulled out of the lot and hit the infant.

Police said they don’t know whether any charges will be filed but added it appears to be a tragic accident that could have been prevented.

“Before you move that vehicle take a look around. If you need to get out, walk around the vehicle just to make sure that there are no small children around,” Det. John White with Denver police said. “They are very hard to see because they are so small.”

A 1 1/2-year-old girl who was hit in the driveway of a home in West Denver Tuesday night is in serious condition. Police say some kids were playing in the yard when their mother came home and pulled into the driveway and ran over her daughter.

No charges are expected.
