NAACP, Ministers Chide Lamborn For Remark
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - A group of Democrats and civil-rights activists planned to visit the Colorado Springs office of Republican Rep. Doug Lamborn Monday to express outrage over his recent comparison of the president to a "tar baby."
The Colorado Springs Branch NAACP and the El Paso County Ministerial Union have signed a letter expressing "outrage" at Lamborn's remark last month on a talk radio show. Lamborn said that being associated with President Barack Obama was "like touching a, a tar baby."
Lamborn later apologized. Lamborn says he meant the term to mean a sticky situation, though the term "tar baby" has at times been used as a racially denigrating term.
A release from the El Paso County Democratic Party said the letter would be delivered at 10 a.m.
