Lafayette Man Pleads Not Guilty In Mom's Death

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - A Lafayette man accused of stomping on the head of his mother, who later died, has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder.

Adam Raszynski entered his plea Friday. Public defender Seth Temin has said the 33-year-old was acting in self-defense.

Investigators say Raszynski threw his 60-year-old mother, Rita C. Redford, down the stairs and stomped on her head and neck after she shot him five times at their home in February.

The Daily Camera reports Raszynski had been living with his mother after being released from a Florida prison, where he served time for aggravated stalking. Police say that in the weeks before her death, Redford told friends that she was afraid of her son and kept a gun in her room.

A two-week trial in the case is scheduled to start March 12.
