DENVER (AP) – Gov. John Hickenlooper is considering a proposal to privatize the state-chartered workers’ compensation insurance fund.
Last year, a similar program died in the legislature after lawmakers said it would limit their oversight of the program.
Spokesman Eric Brown tells the Denver Post that Hickenlooper is only considering whether privatizing Pinnacol Assurance, a quasi-governmental agency, would be in the best interests of the state and he has made no decision.
In a statement, Pinnacol board members confirmed they are discussing the proposal with the governor.
