FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) – Rescuers were unable to save a man whose car plunged into the Poudre River near Fort Collins.

The accident happened at about 4:30 p.m. Friday on Highway 14 in the Poudre Canyon. The driver of an Audi sedan went into the water and was found dead by a water rescue team. A passenger in the car survived.

Colorado State Patrol Trooper Nate Reid says the deceased driver was a 29-year-old man from Pine in Jefferson County. He was not immediately named, nor was the passenger who survived with minor injuries.

Reid says the State Patrol is investigating whether speed or alcohol played roles in the accident. No other cars were involved.
