Some Recalled Papayas Distributed In Colorado
DENVER (AP) - State health officials say some papayas that were recalled nationwide because of potential salmonella contamination were distributed in Colorado.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment said Tuesday the recalled papayas were sold at Walmart stores around the state.
The department says one person in Colorado became ill after eating papaya but may have consumed it outside the state.
Agromod Produce Inc. of McAllen, Texas, recalled the papayas. It said the Blondie, Yaya, Mananita and Tastylicious brand papayas sold prior to July 23 could be linked to 97 reported cases of salmonella in 23 states, including 10 hospitalizations.
The company says the Food and Drug Administration found a salmonella strain in two papaya samples collected at Agromod and in papayas stopped at the border that were headed to Agromod.
