Group Campaigns To Protect Colorado River Flows

DENVER (AP) - Members of a coalition of Western businesses are meeting with officials in Washington, D.C, about maintaining healthy flows in the Colorado River to maintain the economy dependent on the river.

The group Protect the Flows is meeting Monday and Tuesday with Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and congressional leaders. The group says 250 businesses in seven Western states have signed a letter saying a healthy Colorado River means healthy economics for local businesses and communities.

The group represents businesses in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada and California. Members want to ensure that there's enough water to support the recreation and wildlife that support local economies. Protect the Flows says a federal study due next year on demands on the river should also focus on the river's health.
