Nationwide Manhunt Under Way For Child Molester From Douglas County
DENVER (CBS4) - A convicted child molester from Douglas County is now on the U.S. Marshal's most wanted list.
Richard Heeringa, 49, faces 500 years behind bars for sexually assaulting a young girl in Douglas County. He disappeared in April of 2009, the same day he was found guilty.
U.S. Marshals fear he could be seeking out single mothers to get access to new young victims.
"We feel that he could be doing that again. He'll get the trust of a single mother, become a friend, become a partner with her, and then he'll start working on getting access to the child," Roberto Rodriguez with the U.S. Marshals Service said.
Investigators say Heeringa has a background in construction and could be working as a handyman. He is also skilled in martial arts and hunting and could survive in the wilderness for a while.
