Woman Sexually Assaulted Along Cherry Creek Bike Path

GLENDALE, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Glendale are investigating after a woman was attacked along the Cherry Creek bike path.

The attack happened between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. Monday morning. Police say the victim was walking in the 4300 block of Cherry Creek Drive South when she was attacked.

Crime tape was still marking the scene Tuesday evening.

The victim told police she was grabbed by a man, dragged down the hill through the brush and sexually assaulted. After the attack she ran to a high rise apartment building banged on the door and was helped by a security guard who called police.

Glendale Police Chief Victor Ross said they've had bike rage and suicides along the bike path but he can't ever remember a sexual assault.

"We have a heightened patrol down there and we're contacting a lot of people in the area," Ross said. "We feel they might have some information for us, so we will get to the bottom of it and I urge people to continue to use the path. It's very safe."

Police retrieved evidence at the scene and DNA evidence at the hospital. They are hoping to do a more thorough interview with the victim when she feels up to it.
