Denver Police To Crack Down On Illegal Fireworks This Independence Day

DENVER (CBS4)- Police and firefighters in Denver are teaming up this Fourth of July holiday weekend to crack down on illegal fireworks. There is no such thing as legal fireworks in Denver.

Officers will be patrolling neighborhoods and issuing citations. Last year the fire department had to put out a dozen structure fires directly caused by illegal fireworks.

“We’ll be confiscating the fireworks and issuing citations for anyone who is caught with those in their possessions,” said Denver Police Lt. Robert Garcia.

Last year, Denver police issued more than 200 citations to people with fireworks.

“If it is a firework, it is not allowed in the City and County of Denver,” said Denver Fire Chief Eric Tade.

In Wyoming and unincorporated areas of Colorado, some fireworks are legal, but bringing them into Denver for any reason is against the law.

It’s great that the Denver Police are protecting us from illegal fireworks. I sure it saves many injuries from happening and damage to buildings, etc. NOW IF THEY COULD PUT AS MUCH EFFORT INTO CRACKING DOWN ON ILLEGAL ALIENS THAT WOULD BE A REAL BENEFIT TO SOCIETY. I WILL GUARANTEE YOU THE SAVINGS WE WOULD GAIN FROM ILLEGAL ALIEN CRACKDOWNS WOULD FAR FAR OUTWEIGH THE SAVINGS FROM THE FIREWORKS BS. ILLEGALS KILL OR INJUR ON AVERAGE 12 AMERICANS EVERY DAY, HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE HURT BY FIREWORKS ON A DAILY BASIS? OH WELL, THE DENVER COPS DONT HAVE THE GUTS TO DO WHAT REALLY NEEDS TO BE DONE.

I can tolerate the safe use of fireworks on the 4th of July. What I can’t stand are the jerks that think it’s okay to use them for a month or more after the 4th. Also, these jerks disappear under a slimy rock the minute a police car enters the neighborhood.

Its really sad that denver was able to use a loophole in the law to make fireworks illegal without a vote. (a ban doesnt require a vote, if something is banned for 5 years in a row it can be made illegal).
