Denver Police To Crack Down On Illegal Fireworks This Independence Day

DENVER (CBS4)- Police and firefighters in Denver are teaming up this Fourth of July holiday weekend to crack down on illegal fireworks. There is no such thing as legal fireworks in Denver.

Officers will be patrolling neighborhoods and issuing citations. Last year the fire department had to put out a dozen structure fires directly caused by illegal fireworks.

“We’ll be confiscating the fireworks and issuing citations for anyone who is caught with those in their possessions,” said Denver Police Lt. Robert Garcia.

Last year, Denver police issued more than 200 citations to people with fireworks.

“If it is a firework, it is not allowed in the City and County of Denver,” said Denver Fire Chief Eric Tade.

In Wyoming and unincorporated areas of Colorado, some fireworks are legal, but bringing them into Denver for any reason is against the law.
