Mayor-Elect Hancock Joins Juneteenth Celebration
DENVER (CBS4) - Denver Mayor-Elect Michael Hancock was on hand to help celebrate Juneteenth in the Five Points neighborhood on Saturday.
Hundreds took part in the parade. Hancock marched with supporters and thanked the crowd for helping him win the election.
Hancock says he grew up in the neighborhood and has been taking part in the parade for years.
"I've been in the parade at least for 16 years; walking in the parade itself," Hancock said. "I grew up in this neighborhood. Juneteenth is such a moment and great source of pride in this community. On a whole this community is the largest observance in the nation."
Juneteenth marks the day when slaves in Texas learned they were free.
