Evacuation Warnings Lifted For Montezuma

MONTEZUMA, Colo. (AP) - Summit County sheriff's officials say a creek's level in the town of Montezuma east of Keystone has dropped two feet, prompting the lifting of voluntary evacuation orders.

Summit County Sheriff John Minor says a blocked culvert threatened to flood a road at Peru Creek following heavy rains and melting snow Friday.

Residents were notified of the voluntary evacuations telephone and door-to-door announcements. Most residents did not leave and the voluntary evacuation orders were lifted Saturday.

Montezuma in central Colorado is about eight miles east of the Keystone resort and roughly 10,000 feet in elevation. A state website says 50 people lived there in 2009.
