Denver's Gay Pride Parade Kicks Off

DENVER (AP) - This year's gay pride parade and festivities are celebrating the repeal of the military's policy of don't ask don't tell.

Denver PrideFest started Saturday and the theme is "These Colors Don't Run." Organizers tell The Denver Post the event will honor gays and lesbians who have served in the military.

The Denver gay parade's grand marshal is the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, which campaigned for repeal of the ban on homosexuals serving openly in the military. The parade starts at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Cheesman Park and heads to Civic Center Park, where music and more than 200 vendors' booths will be featured.
