Coal Mine Closed After Miner Dies In Accident
SOMERSET, Colo. (AP) - Federal inspectors have closed the West Elk coal mine near Somerset after a 53-year-old man died from a fall.
The Mine Safety and Health Administration says the unidentified victim was a contract construction worker.
The federal agency says the worker fell from a catwalk platform and struck a beam. He was taken to Delta County Memorial Hospital where he died.
The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel says an official who was conducting an inspection in another part of the coal mine at the time issued an order to close the mine.
