Mining Accident Reported In Gunnison County

SOMERSET, Colo. (CBS4) - Federal investigators will look into an accident in Gunnison County on Thursday in which a miner was injured in a fall.

Officials with the Gunnison County Sheriff's office said the worker was believed to be 53 and that the incident happened at the West Elk Coal Mine.

Although he apparently was responsive when leaving the mine, sheriff's officials said the worker was severely injured.

The miner was taken to Delta Memorial Hospital.

It's wasn't clear how the worker fell or what the extent of the injuries were.
