Website Encourages Swapping Children's Clothes

Written by Money Saver Suzanne McCarroll

DENVER (CBS4)- A new website, thredup.com, allows customers to swap kids' clothes online.

"These are some sweaters we received for my son this winter," said mother Cheryl Burger. She has ordered at least 15 boxes of clothes from thredup over the past year.

A box filled with clothes cost Cheryl $5 plus $10 for shipping. She estimates it works out to be about 75 cents per item.

"It's a good way to get used clothes for your kids without having to leave the comfort of your home," said Burger.

The website allows customers to swap children's clothing. Each box comes with a description. Each customer chooses what's best for the child depending on age and gender.

It's free to ship out your clothes. When you order a box filled with clothes, it costs $15, which includes shipping. Thredup provides the boxes, the mailing labels and schedules the pickup times and deliveries right to your home.

"I have a 10-month-old daughter, she's head to toe thredup," said thredup.com founder James Reinhart. He started the company just a year ago. "We've now swapped our 50,000th box, that;'s more than one million items. The reviews are fantastic."

The website also provides an online calculator to keep track of how much a family will save in clothing costs.
