Dog Who Survived Hit & Run Needs Loving Home

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) - A 12-pound dog who survived a hit-and-run now needs a loving home.

Daphne's pelvis was shattered, but she's on the road to recovery. She's a remarkable little dog who needs somebody with a big heart to make her part of the family.

In April the poodle mix was hit by a car.

"She has fractures and dislocations in about seven different places," veterinarian Lesli Groshong said.

Daphne was found by a passerby along Highway 36 outside of Lyons. She was all alone and had suffered life-threatening injuries.

"She's just so lucky she didn't have spinal cord damage, she didn't tear some vital organs," Groshong said.

Daphne is lucky the Humane Society of Boulder Valley partnered with the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Colorado State University.

"Without CSU I think we would have had to euthanize her," Groshong said.

On April 22 Daphne had surgery. Two plates were put in to repair her shattered left hip. Vets are letting the right one heal on its own. She now undergoes therapy to encourage her to use her left hind leg.

Daphne has been fostered by Groshong and her children, Lydia and Bennett.

"Everyday she's making great progress," Groshong said. "Daphne is ready to go home."

But only to a family willing to continue her rehabilitation. Their efforts are sure to be rewarded by a loving little dog who deserves a second chance.
