1,000 Cadets Graduate From Air Force Academy

AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AP) - About 1,000 cadets have graduated from the Air Force Academy and are starting their careers with the rank of second lieutenant.

Air Force Secretary Michael B. Donley was the guest speaker at the graduation ceremony Wednesday at the campus outside Colorado Springs. The Gazette reports that Donley urged the graduates to "be good teammates" and said international security is a team sport.

The ceremony included the traditional flyover by the Air Force Thunderbird team as the cadets tossed their hats into the air.

Just under 1,290 cadets were in the class when they started four years ago and 1,021 made it to graduation.

About 500 will go on to pilot training school, and 32 will train to fly remotely piloted aircraft.

Academy officials say 42,874 cadets have graduated since 1959.
