Investigators said Richards held Doug Edwards captive in his own basement in January 2008. Prosecutors said Richards threatened Edwards' life multiple times, while Edwards was handcuffed.

The couple is relieved by the verdict.

"They were very frightened at the time. They actually went into hiding while Mr. Richards was at large. To this day they continue to be frightened that if he were free, he would try to come back and finish the job," said Bruce Lange, Chief Deputy District Attorney for Boulder County.

Richards faces between 20 and 62 years in prison when he is sentenced in July.
