Police: Man Killed Son, Himself During Standoff

FOUNTAIN, Colo. (AP) -- Authorities say a Fountain man shot and killed his 2-year-old son and himself after wounding his girlfriend and holding off police for six hours.

The Gazette reports that police in the city south of Colorado Springs said Wednesday that Gammall Perez and his son, Gavin, each died of a single gunshot wound Monday night. Shannon Paolini remained in critical condition.

Paolini is a financial services specialist at the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. Police say she was shot when she fled the house she shared with Perez. Officers say they responded to a domestic disturbance call, but backed off when Perez threatened to kill his family.

The standoff started when Paolini ran outside and was gunned down.

Perez and the toddler were found dead when police entered the house. A bedroom had been doused in gasoline.
