Police Respond To Standoff In Fountain

FOUNTAIN, Colo. (AP) - Police have responded to a standoff at a home in southern Colorado.

KRDO-TV reported that a man inside a home was holding off police Monday in Fountain, about 80 miles south of Denver. Neighbors told KRDO that they saw a man chase a woman into the street and then run back into the home.

City spokesman Jay Baker says people reported hearing gunfire, but it's unclear if the woman was shot.

She was taken to the hospital. Her condition wasn't immediately known.

Baker says a child might be in the house with the man, but that hasn't been confirmed.

Fountain police say the standoff began around 2:30 p.m. Five homes nearby were evacuated as a precaution.
